The Development Planning and Implementation Division plays a pivotal role in the generation of knowledge that supports the DBSA in enhancing its development impact, and that contributes to the public policy discourse in a range of development areas.
Since 2008/9 the focus of the Division has been on engagement with planning and implementation processes. The Division is thus geared towards problem-solving in relation to development challenges, thereby offering critical contribution in supporting the public sector in planning for and achieving development in the long term. “Development planning” refers to both the engagement on how priorities are chosen (i.e. values planning), as well as the creation of logical frameworks (i.e. functional planning such as input-output models). The “Implementation” component of the Division’s work refers to advisory and technical support that is offered through specialist expertise in solving implementation challenges.
The Division comprises of five key functions including Research, Policy, Advisory Services, Information Services and Intellectual Capital. The Division has grown its role in public policy and has enhanced DBSA internal operations through the provision of relevant information, technical advice and empirical research. The overarching drive has been to broaden and deepen efforts to impact on development in South Africa and the region.
