PEGNet Conference 2010
PAPER PRESENTATIONS on THE 5TH ANNUAL POVERTY, QUALITY,GROWTH NETWORK CONFERENCE
HOSTED AND CO-ORGANISED BY DEVELOPMENT PLANNING DIVISION DBSA
1. INTRODUCTION
Mr. Ravi Naidoo, Group Executive of the Development Planning Division(DPD) of the DBSA welcomed approximatly140 delegates from developed and developing countries around the world who attended the Annual International Poverty Reduction, Equity and Growth Network Conference (PEGNet) hosted and co-organised by the DBSA on the 2nd and 3rd of September 2010. The DPD partnered with the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW), and the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Speakers and discussants included Joachim von Braun (ZEF Bonn), Joachim von Amsberg (World Bank), Marcela Ibanez Diaz (University of Goettingen), Andries du Toit (University of the Western Cape, SA), Akhter Ahmed (IFPRI Bangladesh), Franz Gatzweiler (ZEF Bonn), Trudi Hartzenberg (Trade Law Centre for Southern Africa), Gerald Ajumbo (East African Community Secretariat), Stephan Ohme (Embassy of Germany)
The PEGNet 2010 theme focused on “Polices to Foster and Sustain Equitable Development in Times of Crises.” The conference provided a platform for practitioners, development researchers and policy - makers the opportunity to present their cutting edge research to an international medium where they could persuade policy makers to consider innovative ideas and research that can address the socio-economic challenges experienced in developing countries.
