The Pan-African Capacity Building Programme (PACBP)
The PACBP is a partnership initiative of the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), and the Agence Francaise de Développement (AFD), a French development finance institution (DFI). The partnership initiative was initiated in 2008, and operations commenced in 2009. The DBSA is the implementing agent of the partnership initiative.
The Main Objective of the PACBP is to build African capacity for infrastructure development. The programme builds capacity through regional DFIs, government departments, semi-government institutions, and other development stakeholders in sub-Sahara Africa.
The PACBP has three capacity building pillars of:
-
Masters in Infrastructure Management (MIIM)
-
Short Courses (professional skills enhancement)
-
Young Professionals Internship (on-the-job training for graduates)
The programme focuses in the critical infrastructure development areas of water and sanitation, energy, roads and transportation. These areas were identified as critical for the continent’s development in a feasibility study carried out in 2009.
The programme seeks to remain relevant to the needs of its African partners, clients and stakeholders, and will deliver capacity building interventions in response to stated requests for capacity support.
