South Africa at the forefront in Energy Efficiency20 October: South Africa is one of only a handful of countries with a nationwide strategy for energy efficiency. This emerged at the recent international ‘Sustainable and Energy Efficient Building in Africa’ workshop, hosted by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA). 120 delegates from a diverse range of African and European stakeholder groups met to appraise and promote renewable energy in South Africa. This workshop was held as part of the DBSA’s initiative of sharing knowledge, experience and information relevant to promoting sustainable development in Africa. JAY NAIDOO RECEIVES ACCOLADE FROM FRENCH GOVERNMENT 20 September: Mr. Jay Naidoo, the Chairperson of the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), was bestowed with the prestigious title of Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by the French government at an auspicious ceremony held at the French Embassy in Pretoria yesterday. NQUTHU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY STREAMLINES OPERATIONS FROM CENTRAL HEADQUARTERS11 August: Nquthu Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal officially commenced operations from its new municipal building today 11 August 2006. The building, which is funded by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) at a cost of R8.5-million, provides the municipality with a central point from which to co-ordinate its operations and conduct its business activities. DBSA Launches Skills Development Academy27 June: The Development Bank of Southern Africa today launched the DBSA Vulindlela Academy, an initiative to further enhance the DBSA’s contribution towards skills development and institutional capacity building. DBSA commits R800 000 to Takalane Crèche26 June: As part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility programme, the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) has committed R800 000 towards the construction of a crèche, which is currently housed in a community hall at Mbewuleni, in the Eastern Cape. Takalane crèche, the only daycare facility in the area, cares for over 60 children. It also caters for orphans who live at various homes in and around Mbewuleni. CABINET NAMES PAUL BALOYI AS DBSA CHIEF EXECUTIVE AND MANAGING DIRECTOR DESIGNATE1 June: The Cabinet yesterday named Paul Baloyi as successor to outgoing CEO and MD of the DBSA, Mandla Gantsho. Currently Managing Director of Nedbank Africa, Baloyi comes to the DBSA with 25 years of rich banking experience, involving a broad spectrum of responsibilities, ranging from risk and human resources management, to government lending, property development, corporate finance and BEE finance.
