DBSA Celebrates Youth Month

The DBSA is dedicated to make a positive difference in young people's lives. Initiatives such as the DLABS Precincts and the Youth Challenge are examples of how we've teamed up with the youth to build a path to a brighter future.

Together with our partners, the DLABS create an ecosystem for community-based transitions. Each DLAB is community-specific and community-focused and provide safe spaces for youth to access opportunities, training and social support with the long-term goal of generating a resilient and economically active youth work-force.

More than 1000 young people have received training over the past year, in the two DLABS that are operational; one in Jabulani, Soweto and a second in Westridge, Mitchell’s Plain.

The Youth Challenge fuels innovation by inviting young people between the ages of 18 and 35 to submit development ideas that address infrastructure challenges and provide solutions that could potentially improve the lives of communities. Currently open for entries until July 31, this year's Challenge incorporates a mentoring component to aid the youth in building sustainable and impactful solutions.  Winners will be announced in September 2021.
