Public Access to Information Manual
   
In terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (No 2, 2000), public bodies are required to compile and publish a manual that, inter alia, describes the structure and functions of the body and sets out the services available to the public and the process to be followed in gaining access to such services. All public contact details of the information officer and their deputies are to be reflected in the manual as are lists of records described by subject and category in sufficient detail to facilitate public requests for access to these. State bodies are also obliged to advertise, by means of the manual, whatever arrangements are in place for the public to participate in policy and decision-making forums within the body and what remedies are available to the public arising out of acts or omissions by the body concerned. The manual is to be updated yearly, published and made available in keeping with the prescriptions of the act.
