SAFETY TIPS

When using public transport from Cape Town International Airport, prioritize safety by avoiding public transport after dark, securing valuables out of sight, and staying aware of your surroundings to deter potential criminals.

Key safety tips for public transport from Cape Town Airport:

•    Travel during daylight hours:
Public transport, especially trains, becomes significantly more dangerous after dark, making it advisable to pre-arrange alternative transport like an Uber or shuttle for evening travel.
•    Secure your valuables:
Keep all valuables, including phones and cameras, completely out of sight and avoid displaying large sums of cash.
•    Stay vigilant and aware:
Be mindful of your surroundings and those around you. Avoid isolated areas and stick to well-populated carriages on trains, even if it means choosing a cheaper option.
•    Don't accept help from strangers:
Be cautious of unsolicited offers of assistance, particularly at transport hubs or when withdrawing cash.
•    Utilize technology for safety:
Consider getting a local SIM card upon arrival to have easy access to emergency numbers (10111 for police, 10177 for ambulance, 112 for general emergency) and to use ride-sharing apps like Uber for secure transport, especially at night.
•    Have emergency contact information readily available:
Keep a list of important contacts and emergency numbers saved on your phone.
•    Be aware of your destination:
Know where you are going before you begin your journey and plan your route in advance.
